The Ferrari Year

“ Beep beep” “Omg its Chirstmas” “Wait the year is ending” “ Oh snap this year was fast”, those were the thoughts running through my head on Christmas day. Well I guess I might have triggered my ADD ( Attention Defesit Desorder)again. Well to the readers who are reading this so called college humour blog, which was made as an assignment at first, I would like to summarise my whole year in this article I am writting now, while laying on my bed. A little to personel, well I guess life is a boundary which is meant to be broken.

January 2010, well that was a lazy month for me, followed by February and soon to March. I must admit I did waste those three months with my friends, not to underline our friendship guys, I still love you guys. I felt I should have at least managed my time. Working out in the gym? Finding a job? Getting a girlfriend? Well I did really think about all these “activities” to utilize my time. The saying ‘an empty barrell makes the most noise” would be the suitable phrase for me, and I would admit that the regrets were felt mainly when I was about to rest my head on my bed at 5 or 6 am in the morning everyday during those three months.

Towards the end of March, my dad started asking me, when I wanted to start my Mass Communication Diploma. I had everything planned out since the age of 15 or 16. Going to Taylors had been a main priority for me, so it didnt have to be an hassle for me, like most of you guys who went for college hunting, me and my dad just drove to Taylors and registered and ate some Indian food if I am not mistaken. March 29th the exact day my college started and I was ready but kind of nervous, I had wanted to change my appearance, but then again I was raised up not to act to get attention but to be myself and get all attention I wanted. It wasnt a problem if people thought I was weird or messed up, at least I did turn a few frowns upside down.

First Sem was rather easy actually but I had decided to do what I do best, SLACK. Most people look at me as someone who should not have been in college, I have come to realize it but than again I am studying Communications and part of my future job requires me to talk and knowing that looks or musical talents arent part of my attributes at least I would have my mouth to take me through life. Readers please be matured I know what you are thinking when I said “my mouth to take me through life “. My lecturers were rather good I shall say, way different compared to schooling life, the dedication that had been planted in their heads really amazed me and I would forever look up to them. One thing I really wanted to change in college was hopping people would start calling me Sanjiv. Well most of my classmates did but other than that people still refered to me as “nigga”. Well I didnt mind it at first, than a thought just popped in my head, everyone gets to be called their own name, but mine isnt. Disrespectful aint it, well what could I do. Seeing myself in the mirror every day made me hate myself more, which I soon started drinking cough syrup. Depression was something that I have been trying to deal with since the age of 14. Jokes said by my friends to me always made me laugh back some were kind of mean but I still managed to put on a smile. People honestly, who ever who said jokes do not hurt is either lying or has a heart filled with hate. Everyone gets hurt from jokes directed to them but different people react differently. Some choose to keep it in so more frusration and problems can be avoided, some go into a rage because anger had been caused due to how sensitive the joke would have been. Overall I didnt mind jokes coming from friends cause I always knew they didnt mean it.

Sem 1 had finished like how David Blane made a rabbit disapear in a couple of seconds. Results were out and I was satisfied with my results, as I had managed to pass all my subjects. Sem 2 had started and I had realize that groups were already created. There were the “front seaters”, “midle tablers” and “backsiders”. Sem 2 was quite hectic, but I had really been motivated to do well and maybe imperssing people, showing them I could be book smart, but it was down to my College Research Method assignment was when my group and I messed up and got a 0 % over 30%. Well I know I should not be pointing fingers but, the reason of us getting a 0 for the assignment was due to the lack of initeative of our ‘so called leader’. Well her named would not be mentioned, due to the slight of respect I still have for her, but she was the main reason I had to work as hard as a bull being used by a Mexican imigrant to escape to America. I went into the examination hall for my Sem 2 final exams with confidence high as Bob Marley. The results came out and I managed to score -2As ,1B, 1+C and a +D. Which meant that C being the border line for passing meant I had failed my College Research Method and I had to repeat it again. Well, despite me working so hard this Sem, failure had occured once more in my life again.

As I reach the last paragraph of this dull article about life I would recap my year as, something forgetable. A year which I wasted, a year which was spend mainly on enjoying. I hope I’m ready for 2011 but shall I not be, the year would be another year the Ferrari drove again.

“ To be the best, you compete with the rest”
“ To beat the rest, you have to finish last”

Preperation for Midterm (part 2)

When someone ask me what are my thoughts about midterm exams and my preparations towards it, I always say the same thing which is, that I think midterm exams should not be applied in college and I am not prepared for my midterm exams. I hope that after I explain my reasons why I think midterm is rather time wasting and why I am never ready for it, you the readers would agree with me. I also hope that I do not offend any pro midterm exams people who read my blog as I do not mean to insult you. As I write this blog I’m writing this according to how I feel about midterm exams.

Firstly I would like to explain what I think about midterm exams. I find it rather harsh that college students have to go through midterm exams as we have already go through it at school. Having midterm exams in school is understandable because teachers in school have to access students on the rate we are going. Having midterm exams in college is simply a waste of time because we college students are moving towards the adult hood and I think midterm is a way of showing where we stand in the academic level in a certain subject.

As a college student we the students should only be given final exams because we need more time to study and do our revision. Having it right after the first half of a course is really hectic for students who still have not adjusted themselves to the college lifestyle. Midterm also causes most students to do last minute studying thus to stay up until wee hours studying and trying to get the very last information into the brain. What ever that comes out in the midterm exams would come out in the final exams in the end and it makes no different why must be do a midterm exam when we are going to do the same question again during the final exams.

As about my preparation towards my final exam I think that I am never ready for any papers. May it be when I was in school or in college I always tend to do last minute studying no matter what. It is a habit I picked up and it is really hard to get rid of and I have since been doing all my preparation two to three days before my exams start. I know that doing last minute studying is not that good and should not be practiced by the younger generations who are reading this, but it always tends to work for me. I believe that students who do last minute studying always tend to do well, as the notes that were studied 5 hours before the exams are still fresh in their mind.

This has been all that I am able to talk about my preparation towards the midterm exams. Either how I think of it or how my preparation towards it, I know that no matter what I would still have to sit and I would have to do the last minute mugging by myself.

Preperation for midterm (Part 1)

It has only been a month and a half since college begun for me and I have already my midterm exams waiting for me next week. The feeling of just starting fresh in college has been long gone, but it still feels just like yesterday when I first started college. There was no more play time and a lot of people always say that when someone is new to college they are bound to suffer from culture shock.

As usual I am not ready for my midterm exams as I have been slacking the whole time in class and not paying any attention when the lecturer is teaching as I concentrate more when I hear my friends talking. I know that I need to do some really hardcore last minute studying I plan on at least passing my midterm exams. I know all the notes that the lecturer has given must be read and understood by me. I have realize that it is not school anymore and I should not be praying for miracles anymore but start managing my time other than going out and enjoying my college lifestyle.

In my opinion I think that the midterm as come a little bit too fast as I’m just fresh out of school and I’m still in my honeymoon world. Having a midterm after a month and a half in college is too fast as it gives me limited time to get adjusted to the college lifestyle. I think that the midterm exams is going to be tough as I do not even know what is coming out and I’m forced to rely on friends who have been paying attention in class to help me out.

Since its kind off too late for me to score an A in my papers I am looking on trying my best in at least getting B’s or C’s in my paper. I think what I should do is start doing questions after questions hopping that I can at least get some of this information in my brains. I also think that I should mute my friend from my life for at least this whole week until I get through my papers so that I can concentrate more. I also have to draw up a schedule to study for my midterm papers so that I can divide my time equally for all the papers so that I am able to pay equally same attention for all the other papers.

This is all that I can say about how I am going to prepare for my midterm as I have no other ways of preparing for my midterm. I know that I need all the hope in the world to pass my midterm exams as I know it is impossible, but as my mum says “its not over until the fat lady sings” which means that do not give up until you are too sure, thus I would not give up in myself and believe that I could at least score B’s or C’s.

Sports or Music (Music)

After speaking on sports in my previous post, I have decided to write about music this time since I was given the choice between music and sports. In everyone’s daily life, music is something that everyone listens to. If there is someone in this planet who does not listen to music, it would be either he or she lived in the jungle for their whole life or they might be captured by underground monster. Music industry is one of the highest money making “scheme” ever in the economy. Most musician are not affected by the economic downturn because they are protected by contracts which liable them to their direct income.

In this world there are so many types and genres of music that it is very hard to keep count of. There are reggae, rap, blues, rock, metal, country and so much more. Different people have different taste in music. Some prefer having a loud noise that pumps the heart to the core and some prefer having a cooling beat that relaxes their heart.

One thing that the types of music that have in common is that, all of them are able to release stress. People look at rap as a symbol of violence, but when the lyrics are actually read and the inner meaning is found there is a different side of rap. There have been people who said that metal music is bad and it goes against religion, but then again most of metal songs are about love.

There is also reggae music where most people say that reggae is all about marijuana. Most people miss out the fact that reggae is about the low tempo and slow instrumental. Reggae music is sung with so much of passion in it and there are a lot of moral values that can be learned from reggae. Like for an example Bob Marley’s hit song Is This Love, where many people thought the song was referring to marijuana. The song was actually referring to love.

Rap songs have proved its worth in the music industry, beating out the other entire genre. Rap which became more hardcore when rappers such as Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G, Suga, 50 cent, Eminem and Snoop dogg. Even though there are still criticism over rap, that rap is bad for children and it would create more and more violent, people still fail to realize that what is being rapped is not fake but the truth of the untold world that the government might be trying to cover up.

People may criticize the different types of genre’s all day long, day or night but it is a well known fact that becoming someone who creates music that pleases others is not something that is as easy as eating left over pizza’s, but it is something that actually turns the world around. Music is always going to be music, may it be pop, rock, blues, country, hip hop, rNb, rap, metal or what so ever, they all have the same motive, which is to entertain people.

Sports or Music (sports)

Picking between sports and music would be one of the hardest decisions that I would have to make as sports and music are both in my interest caliber. But since I have to write two posts on this topic I would write choose sports first. Growing up as a kid, I always remembered my dad telling me that, playing sports could make me fit. A lot of people do not know that running around a field is also a sport. Most people only look at commercial sports as real sports.

Sports have a lot of beneficial to us as it can help us lose weight. Our countries obesity rate is so high that more and more people are going into operation such as liposuction. Playing sports such football, hockey or basketball are only a few of sports that I have choose to name as there are so many more that would take me the whole night to list down.

People don’t know that sports are another source of releasing stress. Due to the economic downturn recently more and more people have got into drugs. A walk in a park for 30 minutes is also known as a form of sport and could reduce a person’s stress and would be keeping a person away from sports. Playing sports could also lead a healthy lifestyle for youths now days, which are easy influence by peers to get into negative culture such as partying, drinking, using drugs or smoking.

Sports could lead to professionalism. A lot of people who have been playing a certain sports as a hobby have gone into becoming a professional. For an example former England football team captain David Beckham started football only thinking of playing it as a passion and he soon became a professional. Someone who has the passion in playing sports could really make it big if potential and interest plays a main role in he or she’s life.

Getting into sports could also make a person not become a couch potato. A lot of people are now just watching television in the evening, when they should be outside sweating and burning calories. A lot of people have said that playing sports is the only way a person can tackle laziness. There are some people who have stated that sports should be played by people who are only good at it. This is by far the most ignorant statement a person could give. Sports are something where even if someone is disabled, he or she could still play. Sports should be played with fun in the mind and not a competitive mind set when it is played for fun.

These are all the points that I can elaborate about sports. My final conclusion is that sports is not only a form of activity anymore but it is now a main part in someone’s life and it is like a basic need in someone’s life. Sports should be done with a smile on a face not something done forcefully.

Taylors Lakeside Campus (part 2)

After elaborating about all the positives in Lake Side Campus, I this it is fair that I also write about the negatives in the Lake Side Campus. Where there is good there is always bad as noting is perfect. I also hope that I would not be putting my “Taylorian” life in jeopardy by writing the negatives of the lake side campus.

First I would like to say that the campus was built in such a rush that some classrooms have not been painted yet and the pipes that are shown out from the ceiling is not a good way of promoting a classy college. In my opinion I think that the contactors rush to build this campus because time had its limit with them. My main prove is that the commercial buildings have not been built yet and it had been predicted to be finished in year 2011.

There is also the bad smell of cow “poop” which makes the campus smell like a farm. Why does a college which cost millions and millions of dollars to build have cows in its area? Why didn’t Taylors College just buy over the land? These are the common question asked by students who are still confused why the campus smells like cows feces.

Taylors Lake Side Campus is a non smoking campus which has made a quite large part of the students angry as why don’t they at least have a few smoking “pots” where students who are on their breaks after a long and stressful day of class. I have been caught smoking by the guards numerous times until; I don’t care anymore as it doesn’t scare me if they even threaten to kick me out from the campus.

The food in the campus has shocked a lot of student’s even lectures. Rm4 for a sandwich with a thin slice cheese and a quarter of an egg is not a good deal to students. I would not mine paying any amount of money for food, but it must at least be worth eating and I think that a prestige campus as Taylors College should at least lower down its food price as most of the students are not working.

Taylors Lake Side Campus has also limited parking spaces and if it passes a certain time limit, one must park really far from the campus. It sometimes takes me around 15 minutes just to walk to my class and I would be mark absent by my lecture.

This has been all the negatives in Taylors Lake Side College. I do not mind studying here but if given a choice to make changes I would definitely make a drastic change in this campus. Firstly abolishing the no smoking rule and creating rooms where students can smoke. Secondly I would buy over the cow farm and modify it into a parking lot so student can fine more parking. The smell of cow’s you know what would also go away and the fresh smell of oxygen can finally be smelled.

Taylors Lakeside Campus (part 1)

Given that I have two posts to write about Taylors Lake Side Campus, I have chosen to write about the positives and negatives about Taylors Lake Side Campus as I think it is fair that I state the truth. I would prefer to start with the positives.
I am proud to say that I study in Taylors Lake Side Campus because the structure of the building is built in such a way that it follows the western culture of architecture. The campus is really huge making it one of the biggest or the biggest in Malaysia. The building was built superbly with a manmade lake and with the commercial lots being built who knows how this campus would develop when time passes.

The campus is built with its own creativity style, and spotting the campus from a distance really makes it looks perfect and it has a one of a kind state of the art design. There are around 5 blocks in the whole lake side campus. The library is seriously one of the biggest I have seen in my life, stretching four floors down. There are a lot of discussion rooms available for personal use which I think is really useful for the college students who want to do their group assignment. There are also a lot of books that are available in the library which allows students to borrow up to five books at a time. With there being a lot of books which can built knowledge to us, it clearly shows us that Taylors main focus is on the education of the students.

The campus also has its own lake. I have seen a lot of fancy college in my time, but this is the first time I am seeing a campus with its own lake, where students can go on boat rides and stuff. Taylors College has also not disappointed the students when it comes to entertainment. The campus is packed with lots of fun such as having a basketball court, two futsal court, a tennis court and two table tennis tables.

Providing fun in the campus is a very good way for students to release their stress after a long day in class and it can also keep students well occupied from negative habits such as drugs or alcohol. The classrooms are also well made and kept clean by the cleaners 24 hours. The air conditioner is always cooling unlike other colleges such as Segi or KDU. There are also good computer labs built in the campus where students can do their work or use social websites such as Facebook to pass their time.

This is all that I have to say about the positives in Taylors Lake Side Campus. Until my next post where I would reveal the negatives in the Lake Side Campus. Hope you guys have a nice day and if my blog is read by someone who is still in school please do join Taylors College so you can be part of the Lake Side Campus agenda.

What am I doing for this Holiday...

Usually as the holiday start all I would think of is doing my assignments, going to the gym and not hanging out as much as I do. But I know whatever I plan would always be a failure so this time I just let Mother Nature take its course on me.

I didn't know what to do during this holiday because I had noting planed out and the holiday seemed as sudden to me as I had just started college so I was like online 24/7 or out. If I wasn't out I was surely online on my MSN and my Facebook. I did go to the library with Harvind, Mei, Michelle, Rachel, Jasmine, Cheryl and Jesseca. We were supposed to go to the lake side and do our assignment. We were supposed to meet at 8.30am but only Jasmine and I were there so both of us were just chilling in the library waiting for the rest.

When the rest finally showed up we all moved to the discussion room so we could do out assignment. We were supposed to do our assignment but we ended up taking pictures. We also did some exploring in the Taylors Lake Side Campus. I was trying to find some 'smoking areas'. Even though smoking is not allowed in this campus, I was still finding some hidden places where I could light up my cigarette. One thing which really surprised me is that the prices of the food in the Lake Side Campus were really expensive. I did have to admit that the lake was really dirty but it was still under construction and only time would tell in the future how it would look.

We ended the day by going to Asia Cafe to have our lunch and we played pool and one by one went home and soon it was just me and Harvind in car going home. Lying on my bed I realized that I have just wasted another day not doing my assignment.

Well the next few days I just hung out with my friends and continued to go online 24/7. I also attended a birthday party. One of my close friends Raihan Rosli, celebrated her 18th birthday. Everyone had an awesome time, it felt so nice to finally hang out with my for schoolmates. It had been a long time since I had seen their faces.

I also spent the remainder of the days updating myself in my love football. Since I started college I have not been watching all the games, so it felt nice to wake up at 2.30 in the morning to watch Inter Milan beat Barcelona 3-1 was worth not sleeping the whole night.

Well I think this is all I can say. I may have wasted my holiday not doing anything, but my mum always said "don't cry over spilled milk" so I don’t think I have regretted that I have wasted this holiday. I think that as humans we should learn from our mistakes and I am proud to say that I have wasted my holiday and there would not be any turn back.

What You Are Doing for the Holidays?

What You Are Doing for the Holidays?.This is a question that many parents love to ask their children as soon as they are back from school and its either their summer holiday, midterm holiday or even a festive holiday had just started. Holiday when looked up in a dictionary means a day free from work that one may spend at leisure. Most parents don't look at it that way and resist that their children do not slack and keep their minds active with educational activities or getting a part time job.

Well as a kid or a teenager who is growing up most of us prefer to spend our holiday doing stuffs like hanging out with friends, going for a sleep over and much more. Most parents are adamant that their children do not go into this kind of activities because they are paranoid that their children might pick up bad habits. Most of the teenagers are forced to get a job. Well getting a job is not a bad thing plus getting additional income from another source other than parents could be a more positive way of going through the holiday period, but most parents don't get it that their children are going to slip in the social life department.

Whenever the question "What you are doing for the Holidays?" is brought up to a child by their parents, the child automatically knows that their holiday is ruined and must now spend the holiday period doing something worthwhile to please their parents. This is not the kind of life that most kids wants, after working their butt of in school they must now work their butt of at home doing activities that please their parents.

As a teenager living in the 21st century, we would really like to deactivate our body during the duration of the holiday, but most parents do not provide this privilege to their children. Making sure your child wakes up at 7 in the morning is really quite harsh towards someone who has been waking up at 6 from Monday to Friday for 5 months.

As for me when asked by my parents what I'm going to do for my holidays, I would always reply them with this same answer which always seems to work, "I'm not sure I would think and tell you when the holiday is coming toward the end". I know what I might say to my parents might be rude, but I have no choice but to say it as I don't want to spend my holidays doing stuff like enrolling into team building courses or getting a part time job.

I love waking up late and sleeping late as I'm not able to this when I'm not on holiday. But parents look at this as bad discipline as they think it might affect out sleeping pattern.

Well to summarize this all I can say is that parents should not ask their children what they are going to do for holiday hence just let their children figure out what to do. This does not only improve the Independence in a child it also builds up self motivation for them.

A New Beginning Part 2

I remember the times when the teacher used to call my mom to complain about my discipline in school. It was not because I was a bully or anything. I really hated school as I thought it was a waste of time. As time passed I soon realized that my final exams in my high school were just in the corner and I was still hanging out with my friends and having a good time. Then one day while I was lying on my bed something just ticked my head. If I would fail my exams I would not go anywhere and I would just be staying at home or working at the nearby petrol station. I told myself that I had to buck up and start studying. I checked my phone calendar and realized that I only had 4 weeks to mug and start studying two years worth of stuff in one month just to do well.

The day of my final exam's came and I took it with the level of confidence as a "school nerd" knowing that I had studied the hardest an it was up to god to pass me. March 11 was the day my results were released and I managed to obtain 3As in my English, Mathematics and Accounts. I remembered the joy in my mum’s face; I remembered seeing the tears of joy rolling down to her cheeks. I remembered when my class teacher called her to school to inform my mum that I would definitely fail my finals and the discipline teacher described me as a sinking ship with no hope. I have no rubbed mud on their face.

The very next day I told my dad I wanted to go to college. My dad jokingly said "Sanjiv wait for a scholarship lar I know you would get". My dad knew that Taylors was in my mind since I was in form 4.My dad and I were supposed to go college hunting like how he did with my sister but we just went to Taylors and registered and within 30 minutes I had already become a Taylors student.

Then March 29 came, the first day of college. I woke up with so much excitement in my body. Orientation was super boring and i felt like smoking 20 cigarettes at one time just to keep awake. When we were separated from diploma and foundation. I went "wow" there were so many hot students in our class, each with their own special talent.
College started for real 4 days later, and that when I realized that this is a new beginning in my life. The teachers oh sorry I meant lectures were so cool and they seemed so friendly and not uptight as school teachers were to students. There was Mr. Winston who is kind of boring in Fundamental of management and he suddenly becomes this awesome, cool and hip teacher in Creative Communication and Portfolio Development. Then we have Ms Karmini who is another awesome lecturer who doesn’t get pissed of at her students. We also have Ms Surika who is pretty cool when it comes to IT, and how can I forget Ms Ngim who is so patient with her student and she doesn’t choose to yell at them.

If this is a new beginning then I really want to be part of it. This would surely be in my memories as the best years to come.

A New Beginning

"Ronaldo takes on the defender...Cristiano Ronaldo with the shot oh what an amazing goal.." that was the voice of the commentator shouting on the mi as the Portuguese winger notched his 26 goal for the 2008/2009 season. This took his tally to 118 goals in 292 games. Speculation after speculation which rumored the Manchester United star to Real Madrid grew more, and then on the summer of 2009 the Portuguese captain finally passed his medical test and made his way to Real Madrid on a record breaking deal worth 80 million pounds. This made Cristiano Ronaldo the world’s most expensive football player overtaking former world player of the year Zinedine Zidane.

Despite losing their clubs top scorer, Manchester United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson was determine to prove pundits and bookies wrong who stated that Manchester United could not cope without their former world player of the year. During a press conference in Kuala Lumpur Ferguson described striker Wayne Rooney as the person who could make a difference and there was a new beginning in Manchester United's history. During previous season when Ronaldo was around, Rooney was known as the player who did the "dog job" and thus Rooney had always played more of an attacking midfielder when Ronaldo was around.

During Manchester United's pre-season games, United were described as a slow attacking team and they lacked speed which Ronaldo provided physically and mentally. Ferguson remained calmed and stressed out that Wayne Rooney would prove his worth.

Match pundits predicted that the first game in the Premier League, United would suffer a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City. The match ended 1-0 United with Rooney getting his name on the score sheet. Fans shouted "Wayne who...Wayne ROOOONEYY" during the next game against Wigan.Rooney scored two vital goals for United as they cruised to a 5-0 victory.

The clash of the Manchesters proved to be one of the most memorable games of the season. Manchester City a squad with wealth took on Manchester United a club with dept. Level after 90 minutes, a game where bookies fancied Manchester City. A superb pass by Wayne Rooney to Ryan Giggs who squared it to Michael Owen who scored an injury time goal to give United a 4-3 win over their arch rivals.

Since then Wayne Rooney has been notching in goal as if he was eating apple pie from McDonalds. His four goals demolition against Hull was the climax proving that there was life after Ronaldo and that Manchester United ambition towards their fourth successive Premier League was not just a dream but something possible to achieve. Wayne Rooney also came of the substitute bench in the League Cup Final against Aston Villa to head in United's winner.

Recently during a game against Bayern Munich in the Champions League Quarterfinal which Manchester United lost, a huge crowd in the Theatre of Dreams gave Wayne Rooney a standing ovation as the striker soldiered on for 40 minutes with a knee injury not wanting to come off so he could help his team.

With four more games to go till the 2009/2010 Premier League comes to close, Manchester United are in second place three points behind Chelsea and with Wayne Rooney being the Premier League top scorer scoring 26 goals in 29 games and scoring 8 goals outside the Premier League, this has really proved to be a new beginning to not only Manchester United but also to Wayne Rooney.

Taylors Lakeside Campus (part 1)

Given that I have two posts to write about Taylors Lake Side Campus, I have chosen to write about the positives and negatives about Taylors Lake Side Campus as I think it is fair that I state the truth. I would prefer to start with the positives.
